House Music All Night Long!

I've always been a big fan of music and have been buying 12" singles since the 8th grade (Tour de France by Kraftwerk was the first one I ever bought). I had always wanted to learn how to DJ, so a few months after I got my first Graphic Design gig, I decided to make the leap and bought a pair of 1200s and a mixer.

I got in contact with an old friend, Louanthony Guevara aka Selector G of the popular San Jose Hip Hop group 10BassT, and asked for a few lessons. I was fortunate enough to be able to pick up the techniques pretty quickly and I embarked on a short-lived career as a DJ. It would have been great to pursue it full time but there came a point where I had to decide between being a Graphic Designer or a DJ. I have no regrets about the choice I made. I had a lot of good times.

I've had the opportunity to play with Rick Preston, Harry Whoo?, Julius Papp, and M3 at clubs like the Hi-Fi Lounge, F/X, The Usual, DigitalBath, The Jungle, and 26Mix. I've even organized a few weekly and private parties (Rubber Soul was my favorite). It's an experience I will never forget. I still DJ from time to time but it is more of a hobby now. And of course I still make the occasional mix CD. Four of them are available here for your listening pleasure.

DJ Z: ArrivalDJ Z: Arrival  Coming Soon!

The long awaited sequel to Departure is finally in production. I definitely pulled an Axl with this one since it has taken so long. I consider this to be my personal Chinese Democracy. Ha ha! Watch this space for it's imminent release.

DJ Z: DepartureDJ Z: Departure

This mix is dedicated to the people that were part of the Rave scene back in the early days before it was commercialized. I've included a lot of old school rave funk and breakbeats that date back as early as 1990. So break out your glowsticks and follow me on this journey.

DJ Z: ListenDJ Z: Listen

Packed full of the same rhythmic melodies you experienced on Volume One except on the Progressive tip. Not quite Techno. Not quite House. My music programming style was near complete at this point. I hope you feel the vibe I was trying to communicate. Enjoy!

DJ Z: Volume OneDJ Z: Volume One

This was my first mix and a great benchmark for where I was after a few months. I was still trying to figure out how I was going to combine my musical influences so the programming is all over the place. There are a few spots where I could have mixed better. But you have to crawl before you walk.
